The seasonal change in a coastal city in Southern France are impressive. I visited Biarritz in the busy tourist season during summer last year (2014) and there were locals and tourist everywhere in the city and on the beach. Today on a winters day in December the city makes a completely different impression. The streets are nearly empty and most important, the beach-break is nearly surfer-less.

During the high season it will difficult for you to catch a to you private wave. Today, in early December, the waves on Côte de Basques sees only a handful of surfers, and nearly everyone brings a longboard to the beach break. I like Biarritz during the low season.

Being who I am I like it quiet, and I take great pleasure in revisiting places. And although I greatly enjoy to experience new places and see new stuff, I also appreciate being in somewhat familiar places. It comforts me in many ways to visit, stay and move around in to me know surroundings. And thatīs probably why I choose to take a detour to Biarritz on my way home from Southern Spain this winter. I were curious as how the village and the beach break would be like during winter. I arrived at Côte de Basques late evening in a light rainfall and parked in the exact same spot as this summer, only today I was the only one here, I was totally on my own in the parking spots, on the road on top of the cliff that during summer is packed full with camper-vans and ordinary vans of all kind. A significant number of surfers come here and park to sleep over during summer-time.

The following day I strolled around in the empty streets, on the desolated beach and in the abandoned fisher-harbor. And I liked it although the weather were quite different from this summer, being gray and overcast. After lunch I set off to revisit another place in Southern France, - thatīs what I do, thatīs what I like, I like to visit places again, to experience them in a new season, in a new light, in another way. Thatīs just me, thatīs who I am, thatīs the way I like it.
