When I was at Hekla today I had the opportunity to enjoy a clear view to the summit of the volcano; this is a rare sight according to the local experts. Their observations seems in line with my own not so scientific mental notes; out of my, now several visits to Hekla only a few endorsed me with a sight towards the very top at 1491 m.
I would compare this sight a reward for returning so many times to Suðurland, I think It's a bit like fishing for sea-trout. Patience is the single main skill it takes to catch this rare creature.
Also here on Iceland you will grow and learn to appreciate the small simple things in life, - nature will learn you to take the short bursts of joy in full when something unexpected occurs.
