After traveling around in Iceland for just a short period of time you will have learned to expect the unexpected. Within driving for just a few hours or just covering a fairly short distance, you will most likely experience all the possible structures and colors the surface of our lovely planet can have: moss, water, rock, soil, grass, sulfur, lava. The skies will also most certainly present you with a mix of rain, mist, sunshine, clouds and blue skies. This is Iceland, and this is why I love this island: because of the diversity.
This collection of photos were all shot on the same day in the Northern region of Iceland. After staying overnight in the interior I descended from the plateau down through a valley following the river to one of the many spectacular waterfalls. Gošafoss is one of the most visited waterfalls, and I have been here numerous times, but never felt particular luckily with the weather when stopping here. Today my luck was a bit better, still I don“t fell like I have that great shot, - I find Gošafoss difficult to portray.
When darkness started to fell in the evening I was at another famous waterfall, Dettifoss, setting up my camera for a long exposure. Dettifoss is not as beautiful as Gošafoss, but it is the most powerful here, and also in all of Europe, and the third most powerful on this blue planet. The roar from the huge body of water drooping 44 m. vertically is very spectacular. In average the volume of water passing is nearly 200.000 liters per second. Breathtaking figures.
Standing here is like beeing in a museum, - everybody shuts up. Many things about Iceland does just that: it takes your breath away.
