Rise of the bats

Sunset at Hornbæk beach

Camera: Canon EOS 1Ds MKIII
Lens: Canon EF 24-105 mm. f/4.0L IS

I returned to Hornbæk this evening to walk on the beach again, for the third day in a row. As usual I brought my camera with me, - as you know the best camera is the one that you have with you, this time my Canon EOS 1Ds MKIII.

On this occasion I was gifted a wonderful sunset, which I consumed in the comfort of a unbelievable warm evening for the season, - the blowing of winds is just a distant memory from the day before. The night pressed on, and daylight faded into twilight, releasing the bats to do their thing under the cover of darkness. The only sounds to be heard is originating from the nearly non existing and fragile sea surf.

I prefer these hours in the outdoors over the one I instead potential would waste in the confinement of my couch. Still I can’t say that I find true happiness here walking alone on the desolated beaches at night, between the woods and the ocean, - but it sure makes me fell a hole lot better, and it takes my mind of all the clutter that spins around in a unordered chaotic manner in my mind. It offers me peace and comfort.
I take joy in preserving these beautiful and unique moments.

All these photos were exposed with my Canon EOS 1Ds MKIII and a EF 24-105 mm. f/4.0L IS zoom lens, - my favorite lens these days. The last two photos I shoot handheld in the darkness after the sunset at 1/20 of a second at ISO 1600. This is evidence of the magic of Image Stabilization (IS) and modern low-light capable full-frame-sensors. Recently Canon has released a EF 16-35 mm. f/4.0L IS wide-angel zoom lens. And since more that half my photos has been exposed with my EF 17-40 mm. f/4.0L wide-angel zoom lens I´m seriously considering getting one, just to have the IS.
